All About Bloom
Welcome to Bloom! I’m Aaliyyah Abdur-Rahman, an educator with over 10 years of experience positively impacting both educators and scholars in Brooklyn, Harlem, and Atlanta. In 2024, I founded Bloom to support children in underserved communities recovering from COVID-19 learning loss and to address the literacy gap in Black and Brown communities. At Bloom, we offer tutoring in English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science to help students catch up and thrive.

In addition to being a teacher, I’m also a children’s book author. In 2020, I wrote You Look Like Me, a book that highlights the importance of representation in male-dominated careers and encourages children to pursue their dreams. I also lead writing workshops for young students, fostering a love for storytelling and showing Black and Brown children that they too can be authors.

I travel nationwide to deliver speaking engagements and professional development seminars, sharing strategies to support educators and improve teaching practices.

At Bloom, we are dedicated to helping every child and educator reach their fullest potential through support and encouragement.

Tutoring Services

Writer's Workshop
Join me for an engaging 60-minute Writer's Workshop where scholars will explore the stages of the writing process while diving into both reading and writing activities. During this session, I’ll guide students through the steps of brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing, sharing how I applied this process in creating my own children’s book. After discussing the writing process, I’ll read my book aloud and ask comprehension questions to help scholars think critically about the story. Together, we’ll focus on the key thinking jobs involved in understanding fiction, encouraging students to connect the writing process to their own creative journeys.
Professional Development
I offer professional development for educators and learning communities worldwide, focusing on shifting mindsets and addressing unconscious bias related to gender equity. Through interactive workshops, I facilitate discussions on how biases affect teaching practices and provide practical strategies to create inclusive, equitable learning environments. My seminars also emphasize the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, empowering educators to build spaces where all students, regardless of gender, race, or background, can thrive. These sessions inspire change, challenge perspectives, and equip educators with the tools for meaningful transformation.
